We, Asia Monitor Resource Centre (AMRC), would like to clarify a piece of news published by Ta Kung Pao (大公報) on 13 September 2021.
AMRC started its mission in 1968. We have been working for the labour rights of the grassroots workers across Asia, particularly on occupational health and safety since then. For decades, we are a civil society organization independent of any local or international organizations. We are not a subsidiary unit of any of the organizations as wrongly described in the Ta Kung Pao article. It is privileged that we are based in Hong Kong, an international city that provides efficient communication, international exchange, resources for comparative studies in law and policy and rich labour rights education, allowing us to contribute to the advancement of labour rights in the region.
Nonetheless, such viable environment is drastically shrinking. The pressure on our operation has intensified significantly. Therefore, we feel that we are left with no choice but to cease operating in Hong Kong by the end of September and start the relocation process to continue our mission to serve Asian labour.
